Dead Age: Tame Dinos Dinosaur Companions: What Your Tamed Dino Does and How to Control It
Your tamed dinosaur in Dead Age: Tame Dinos stays close, guards you and can be ridden. Learn the HUD panel's PROTECT BASE, FOLLOW YOU and RELEASE buttons.
A tamed dinosaur in Dead Age: Tame Dinos is a protector, a companion and a mount in one. Here's what it actually does for you — and which buttons put you in charge of it.
Quick answer
Your tamed dino stays close, acts as your protector and can be ridden with Ride. You control all of it from the panel on the left side of the HUD: every dino there has a PROTECT BASE / FOLLOW YOU mode toggle, a RELEASE button and a readout of its current HP.
- Every tamed dinosaur shows up in the left HUD panel with its species and current HP.
- PROTECT BASE switches a dino to guarding your base; FOLLOW YOU calls it back to your side.
- Use Ride right after taming to hop on — tamed dinos wear a saddle and a green name tag.
- On quiet nights and in fights, your dino's protective side shows in bubbles like “I'll protect you.”

The left HUD panel is your control center
Every dinosaur you tame gets an entry in the panel on the left side of the HUD. Each entry names the species, shows the dino's current HP, and carries the controls you need:
- PROTECT BASE — switches that dino to guarding your base.
- FOLLOW YOU — switches it back to following you around.
- RELEASE — for parting with a dino you no longer want.
The mode buttons are toggles, and each dinosaur gets its own pair — so you can leave one dino home on PROTECT BASE while another tags along on FOLLOW YOU.
The HP numbers are worth a look, too. One playthrough showed three Parasaurs at 150, 187 and 190 HP beside a Triceratops at 495 — those same-species values didn't match in that run, so read each dino's HP from its own entry instead of assuming a fixed species value.
What a tamed dino does for you
A tamed dino hovers close by, and its speech bubbles tell you what it thinks its job is. On quiet nights — when the game shows “NIGHTFALL - A quiet night. Stay near the fire.” or “SOMETHING IS WATCHING” — your dinos gather around you with lines like “I'll protect you.”, “Right behind you!” and “Nothing gets past me.” When trouble actually arrives, they get blunt about it: during a Day 8 fight, one tamed dino's bubble read “Nobody touches my human.”
That protective streak is the game's whole premise, too. Dead Age: Tame Dinos is pitched around your dino helping you survive a prehistoric world full of zombies and rescue your beloved pet, Usagi — a tamed dino isn't a trophy, it's the partner you survive with.
Hop on: riding your dino
Riding opens up the moment a tame completes. The game's own prompt says exactly what to do: “You tamed a Triceratops! Use Ride to hop on.” From then on your dino wears a saddle and a green name tag — “Bruce's Parasaurolophus” in one playthrough — so you can tell which dino is yours when several are milling around camp.

Small habits that make the controls click
- Before heading out, set FOLLOW YOU on any dino you want along and leave the rest on PROTECT BASE.
- Glance at the HP numbers in the panel to see how each dino is holding up.
- The saddle and green name tag tell you at a glance which dino is yours.
