Dead Age: Tame Dinos Beginner Guide: What to Do First and What Comes Next
Your first objectives in Dead Age: Tame Dinos: claim a free Rare class, light the campfire on Day 1, survive your first zombie night, then tame dinos and chase the night-100 Usagi rescue.
Quick answer
Light the campfire. Your Day 1 objective is to chop the yellow trees, carry the wood to the fire and light it before night falls. Your next objective is surviving the night: place your free first wall near the campfire and fight off the zombie horde with your club. From there, follow the GOALS panel each day, tame dinosaurs by feeding them, and chase the run-long goal of reaching night 100 to rescue Usagi.
- Lobby: claim the daily login gift - a free Rare class of your choice - then pick a party size or join an open group at the portal pads.
- Day 1: complete “LIGHT THE CAMPFIRE - Bring wood to the fire before night falls!”
- Night 1: when “THE HORDE IS COMING” hits, your first wall is free - place it near the campfire and fight with your club.
- Every day after: work the GOALS panel - raise the campfire, defeat zombies, place builds, clear dungeons.
- Long term: feed wild dinosaurs to tame them, and keep surviving toward night 100 to rescue Usagi.
Dead Age: Tame Dinos gives every run the same shape: build up a camp by day, survive the zombie horde by night, and tame dinosaurs to fight beside you. This guide walks through your first session — lobby, Day 1, Night 1 — and then the objectives that follow, so you always know what to do next.

First: claim your free class and pick a party in the lobby
The lobby hands new players an immediate reward: a daily login gift ("GORK brought you a present!") giving a free Rare class of your choice. Press the "Pick a class" button and claim it before queuing — the classes offered in one recorded session included Paramedic, Revenant, Hunter, Farmer and Knight, and a streak counter tracks your consecutive login days.
Runs start at the portal pads:
- Set your group with the "Choose party size" selector (values such as 1/5 and 2/5 were shown).
- Or join an open group from the lobby boards, which list entries like "TRIO 1/3 JOIN" with countdowns.
- When a group fills up, it shows "Party full - Starting soon" and the run begins.

Day 1: light the campfire
Your first objective appears as soon as you enter the island: "LIGHT THE CAMPFIRE - Bring wood to the fire before night falls!" You start with a Wood club in the hotbar.
- Walk up to a yellow tree and chop it — the on-screen prompt in the recorded playthrough read "Press R2 at a yellow tree to chop it" (a controller prompt, so your platform's input may differ).
- Carry the wood to the fire before night falls.
- When the wood is delivered, the campfire lights up: the run showed "Campfire level 1: 12 new recipes!" and "Zone 1 unlocked - Campfire level 1/8" as the camp opened up.
While you gather, keep an eye out for hollow fallen logs — they work as small loot containers. One early log opening yielded a Copper club and berries.
Night 1: survive your first horde
A "Night falls in 0:10" warning precedes "THE HORDE IS COMING". The game tells you exactly what to do: "Build a wall! Walk to the yellow crafting table" and "Your first wall is free! Place it near the campfire." Place that free wall near the fire, then fight off the zombies that climb over the palisade with your melee club.
Every day after: follow the GOALS panel
Once the first night is behind you, the GOALS panel is your to-do list. By Night 4 it was tracking "Night 5", "Campfire level 5", "Defeat zombies 5/50", "Place builds 4/10", "Clear dungeons 0/1" and "Raise the campfire", each with a heart icon. Surviving the night rolled the day counter to Day 5 and paid "+1 DIAMOND" in the run observed.
Two habits keep you alive while you chase those goals:
- Eat before hunger empties. When hunger hits zero you get "You're losing health from hunger. Eat something!" and then "You're starving!" — and then death, where you come back as a ghost.
- Cook at the campfire. Raw meat and raw dinosaur cuts dropped into a lit campfire come back cooked ("+1 Cooked meat", "+1 Cooked dinosaur drumstick", "+1 Cooked dinosaur chop"), so your objective is also your kitchen.
For how the day/night rhythm stretches across a longer run, see the Dead Age: Tame Dinos survival days overview.
Your next big objective: tame your first dinosaur
Dinosaurs are the game's namesake, and taming starts simply: you feed wild dinosaurs food until they accept you.
- A wild Parasaurolophus fed a Cooked dinosaur chop showed a food counter at 5/7 with the bubble "One more bite...", then completed with "You tamed a Parasaurolophus! Use Ride to hop on."
- A Triceratops was fed Blueberries and chimed in with "Not bad, human." / "Just a little more and I'm yours!"
Bite counts differ per species, so treat those numbers as examples rather than fixed values. Once tamed, each dinosaur appears in the left HUD with its own HP (a Parasaur showed 150, a Triceratops 495), PROTECT BASE / FOLLOW YOU toggles and a RELEASE button. Tamed dinos stay near you and defend you — during one fight a dino announced "Nobody touches my human."
The full step-by-step feeding walkthrough is on the how to tame dinosaurs page, and the dinosaur companions guide covers what tamed dinos do for your camp.
The run-long goal: night 100 and rescuing Usagi
One loading-screen SURVIVAL TIP frames the whole run: "Reach night 100 to rescue Usagi!" — matching the game's own pitch of surviving a prehistoric world full of zombies and rescuing your beloved pet. Keep raising the campfire, keep clearing the GOALS panel, and treat night 100 as the finish line. When you get close, the Usagi rescue guide has the rescue route.
